How long has EPMB been in business?
 
   
EPMB as a group was incorporated in 1996, but the business has been around since 1982, starting out first as a plastics manufacturer before gradually becoming involved in the automotive components industry.

What is an affiliate company, and how is EPMB linked to them?
 
   
 
An affiliate company is a company that has a common majority shareholder. Companies affiliated to EPMB through common shareholding include KB Teknik Sdn Bhd, Pesaka Nuri (M) Sdn Bhd and EP Properties (M) Sdn Bhd. These companies form part of EPMB integrated manufacturing module, where all stages of the manufacturing process are managed within the same group of companies to achieve lower cost and maintain similar standards of quality.
 
   
 
 
 
   
 
 
 
   
 
What Quality Management Systems are already in place at EPMB’s subsidiaries and affiliated companies?
 
   
 
PEPS-JV, EPMB's 79.5%-owned subsidiary has ISO/TS 16949:2009 certification issued by the UK-based Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). EP Polymers, EPMB's 100%-owned subsidiary has ISO 9001:2009 certification, also issued by the VCA. EP Polymers' efforts to attain ISO/TS 16949 certification are in progress.

What range of capabilities does EPMB have?
 
   
 
EPMB has a wide range of capabilities that cover design to mass-production.
Our subsidiaries and affiliate companies are capable of managing all the stages of product development, assisted by a range of design facilities that include AutoCAD, Catia, CAM and CAE, a range of production and assembly facilities that include state-of-the-art blanking, stamping, welding and painting machines, as well as a wide range of testing facilities.

What technical partnerships are EPMB currently participating in?
 
   
 
EPMB currently has two ongoing technical partnerships. One is is a Technical Collaboration Agreement with Robert Bosch (Australia) Pty Ltd, signed in 2003 for the manufacture and supply of brake parts to Proton and other carmakers. The other is a Technical License Agreement with Koito Manufacturing Co. Ltd of Japan, signed in 1994 for the design and manufacture of automotive lighting equipment.

What facilities does EPMB have in-house?
 
   
 
EPMB's in-house facilities for automotive metal products currently include a blanking line, three stamping tandem lines, three welding assembly lines, a black electro-deposition (ED) painting line and three modular assembly lines.
 
   
 
 
EPMB's in-house facilities for composite and automotive plastic products currently include injection moulding machines with varying tonnages (up to 3000T), robotic and manual spray painting lines as well as lamp and bumper module assembly lines.
 
   
 
 
EPMB also has in-house testing facilities covering a wide range of requirements, from dimensional testing to photometric testing. EPMB also designs and fabricates its own moulds and tools through its subsidiary EP Moulds & Dies (M) Sdn Bhd.
 
   
 
 
Design and development is also conducted in-house using Catia, AutoCAD, CAM and CAE.

How many plants does EPMB currently have and where are they located?
 
   
 
EPMB currently has four plants, all located in the state of Selangor. EPMB's metal products are manufactured mainly on our 23-acre site in Batang Kali, while our 3.4 acre site in Hicom-Glenmarie Industrial Park , Shah Alam mainly undertakes the production of composite and plastic products. Our plant in Melaka and Kedah also manufactured for metal part that supply for Honda and Mazda.

EPMB's plants are currently running at 60-75% capacity. This means we are still able to to take on new projects in the near term.

How much investment has EPMB ploughed into its facilities?
 
   
 
To date, EPMB has spent some RM323million on expanding our operations to ensure the long-term sustainability of our business, to keep ourselves cost-competitive and cutting-edge, and to enable us to significantly expand our market beyond the domestic front. These investments include the installation of state-of-the-art facilities for product development, production and testing.

Who are EPMB’s major customers?

 
   
 
EPMB's major customers currently include Malaysia's two national carmakers Proton and Perodua, the world's largest carmaker by sales Toyota, and the world's third largest by sales Honda. EPMB also manufactures parts for Suzuki, Yamaha and Malaysia's national motorcycle maker Modenas.

What are some of the products manufactured by EPMB?
 
   
 
EPMB manufactures a wide range of metal and plastic automotive components, for the exterior and interior fittings of a vehicle as well as for its body and chassis.
 
   
 
 
Our specializations include the manufacture and assembly of modular parts, including corner modules (braking systems in association with Bosch) and fuel tank modules. We also specialize in automotive lighting equipment for various makes and models of vehicles. Our composite division manufactures high-end carbon-fibre monocoque bicycles.

Who runs EPMB?
 
   
 
EPMB is run at holding company level by a Board of Directors consisting an Executive Chairman, Deputy Executive Chairman, two Non-Independent Executive Directors, one Non-Independent Non-Executive Director and four Independent Non-Executive Director.

How many staff does EPMB employ?
 
   
 
EPMB currently employs about 1,800 staff, over half of whom are executives and management staff involved in sales, marketing, human resource, finance/accounts, quality control and operations. Labour in our plants are sourced locally and work two shifts over 24 hour cycles.

What kind of training and development activities do EPMB staff undertake?
 
   
 
EPMB staff of all levels are required to undergo training and development activities to acquaint themselves with acceptable work ethics as practiced in and by the world's largest automakers.
 
   
 
 
Among the activities our staff participate in are Jishuken, a program that teaches methods introduced by Toyota to eliminate wastage in daily activities. It incorporates key Japanese work ethics such as Kaizen and Kanban to raise the bar on SQCDM (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Delivery and Morale).
 
   
 
 
Other activities include the Quality Control Circle (Japanese method of rectifying problems) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
 
   
 
  Our staff also actively participate in programs organized by the Proton-Perodua Joint Improvement Committee (JIC) as well as training and development programs organized by other carmakers.

How has EPMB been performing financially?
 
   
 
EPMB, like most Malaysian companies, took the brunt of the Asian Financial Crisis circa 1997-1999, suffering losses after years of ploughing significant investments into its facilities.
EPMB returned to the black in FY2003 ended 31st December.
